This is a full-time position located in Lebanon, Illinois and reports to the Director of Public Safety.
In order to ensure the safety of members of the McKendree community, the Office of Public Safety is responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment on the campus; assisting members of the University community as needed; responding to emergency situations including fire alarms, inclement weather alarms, and other incidents; and enforcing parking and other university policies.
Public Safety works to create an environment where people can feel safe to learn, work, live and visit and is committed to providing safety and protection to the entire University community.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Performs duties as assigned by shift Director of Public Safety.
Provides safety and protection for all campus personnel and property.
Answers service calls via radio or telephone, type reports, and make incident blotter entries.
Conducts periodic walk-throughs in all campus buildings, especially the residence hall areas.
Observes and alerts University personnel for irregularities such as power outages, gas or water leaks, unlocked doors, open windows, vandalism or unusual occurrences.
Monitors the effective operation of security, fire alarms and campus safety systems.
Transfers cash deposits and other property to secure University offices and approved off-campus financial institutions.
Closes or locks unsecured doors, gates and windows to deter illegal activity and loss of property.
Participates in extensive communication with faculty, staff, and students.
Maintains radio communication with civilian law enforcement and interfaces, when necessary.
Visually checks all boilers and fire alarm panels at least once per shift.
Conducts patrols of campus property checking for safety hazards.
Directs and monitors vehicular and pedestrian traffic on campus property and surrounding public streets.
Opens and secures campus facilities for normal operations as well as for special events.
Assists to Lebanon Police Department when directed by shift supervisor.
Accomplishes a daily record of events and incidents through supervisor.
In case of emergencies, performs necessary first aid or administers Narcan to prevent opioid overdose until the arrival of ambulance personnel.

Monitors weather conditions and alerts campus personnel, when necessary.
Enforces University parking rules and all state, local, and campus laws, and regulations.
Maintains an efficient knowledge of directives, rules and regulations pursuant to the Public Safety Procedures Manual and University Employee Handbook.
Uses only the force necessary to accomplish the task.
Adheres to all departmental and University policies and procedures.
REQUIRED
Qualifications:
High School graduate or equivalent, at least 21 years of age.
Must possess certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (I.

) as a certified full-time police officer, be eligible to be granted a waiver of basic training from I.

, or must successfully complete the next available full-time S.

Must be able to successfully complete and pass a modified Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board physical fitness P.

test consisting of 1 minute of sit ups; maximum bench press, and one-mile continuous walk tests.
No record or criminal convictions of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.
Must have a valid driver's license, must pass annual DMV check, and be insurable.
Possess a valid Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID).
Must pass a background check, psychological test, and drug test.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact effectively with students, employees, and management.
Ability to identify problems quickly and make accurate, timely decisions.
PREFERRED
Qualifications:
Two (2) years police, military, or security experience.
WORK HOURS/CONDITIONS:
12-hour shifts, shift work, weekends and holidays included.
Position requires extensive walking, working outdoors in all types of weather.
